8 Tips for a Newbie Sleuth

Hey, Killer Night Club Members 👋 It’s nice to meet you! We are Kim and Eva, two true crime lovers, morbidly obsessed, in it for the plot, and we can’t wait to pop your murder mystery cherries 🍒 . Let’s get one thing straight: a murder mystery should be nothing but fun from the moment you say HELL YES to reading out the final solution, so don’t worry if you’ve never been a part of one before; it’s our pleasure to walk you through how we run ours.

Tip one:

Playing a murder mystery game requires just three basic attributes: a sense of fun, an ability to strike up a conversation with another person, and the willingness to pretend to be someone else for an evening. If you can do that, you should have no trouble!

Tip two:

Dress to impress: You will receive information, including costume tips, about your character beforehand. A good costume can help you get into the spirit of the game, and also means that you will be in lots of photographs.

Tip three:

Print out + Read your character sheet!! Your character sheet explains who you are, who you know and what your objectives are. It will be imperative to print out a copy to bring with you. Keep your character sheet handy, as you’ll probably need to refer to it during the evening.

Tip four:

Find your friends and your enemies: In this game, there are those who will help you and those who will oppose you. It’s essential to find both – although to get your friends to help you, you may have to help them in return.

Tip five:

Introduce yourself: Once the game starts, talk to people in your character. Introduce yourself as your character. If you don’t know anything about someone, ask who they are and why they’re here. If you know something (from your sheet or another player), ask about that.

Tip six:

Stay in character: Avoid discussing topics like TikTok videos, current affairs, or anything else that isn’t part of the game. It’s more enjoyable if everyone collaborates to keep the party's authenticity intact.

Tip seven:

In a Killer Nights game, finding out who carried out the murder is only part of the fun. You will also have goals to carry out that are tailored to your character, so that every role has main character energy! Fishing for the truth? Finding out is a matter of talking to people and picking up the clues.

Tip eight:

Finally, not to be corny or anything, but the real winner of any Killer Nights game is the person having the most fun. Remember, do it for the plot!
